Dedicated to Community,

Committed to Wellness

  • Community feedback highlights a strong demand for engaging senior services such as monthly “Senior Social” events, SilverSneakers and other dedicated senior fitness. I’ll advocate for the formal annual allocation of funds to expand senior-focused offerings such as chair yoga, low-impact cardio, seated classes, virtual options and regular social events. This includes partnering with Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services to maximize programming without increasing the tax rate.

  • Residents consistently rank protection of air quality and open space as top priorities. The Board oversees key decisions such as native landscaping in parks to waterwise irrigation systems. I’ll advocate for adopting a “green park” policy: expanding native plantings, installing low-flow irrigation, increasing tree canopy where feasible and evaluating energy-efficiency upgrades.

  • Local surveys show a high demand for more trails, safer crossings, improved park amenities and renovated facilities. Trustees are charged with reviewing and approving interlocal maintenance agreements, capital budgets and bonds. I’ll work to prioritize a package of infrastructure projects: resurfacing main trails, ADA-accessible ramps and lighting in older parks, stormwater improvements in pocket parks like Berry Hill and safer pedestrian crossings to the CH Rec Center. I’ll also advocate for coordinated funding with Public Works and Salt Lake County through interlocal agreements.

Hi, I am Jen

Here’s Why I’m Running

I’m Jennifer Cottam (most people call me Jen), and I’ve always believed in the power of community health and connection. I spent over 15 years working as a fitness trainer at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, where I had the privilege of getting to know so many of our residents. The Rec Center is more than just a place to work out; it’s a vital part of what makes our city strong and connected.

Even after stepping away from my training role, I’ve stayed involved: from sponsoring the Thanksgiving 5K to serving the Cottonwood Heights Foundation. I love supporting, helping to raise funds and raising awareness for a charity that truly makes a difference. I also am honored to serve on the Parks, Trails and Open Spaces committee.

Serving our community is important to me, and I’m excited for the opportunity to bring my experience and passion to the Parks and Recreation Service Area Board of Trustees.
